About Us

The Port of Switzerland is the gateway to the oceans of the world. More than 10 per cent of all Swiss imports that find their way here on the Rhine from all over the world via ocean ports like Rotterdam, Antwerp and Amsterdam are handled in Basel, Birsfelden and Muttenz. Here you will find large grain silos, storage facilities for petrol and other petroleum products and high stacks of containers. Around 100 companies work here to facilitate a major part of the Swiss export trade.

The Port of Switzerland organisation ensures that all the necessary conditions for cargo handling are in place and sees to it that the port remains attractive as a logistics hub. It also assumes official responsibilities – for example, the operation of the Pilotage Traffic Centre, which guarantees smooth handling of shipping traffic.

The Port of Switzerland is a member of the RheinPorts port cooperative and the Basel Region Logistics Cluster.
